A beautiful Edwardian silver dish ring which is beautifully hand pierced and chased with flowers, running dogs, fruit and birds in flight. The ring still retains its original cobalt blue liner and has a cartouche to the front which has never been engraved. Both the liner and the dish are in excellent condition. Dimensions: height 10.4 cm; width (at top) 18.2 cm, width (at the base) 20.1 cm; weight 12.5 troy oz. The dish ring, also known as a potato ring, was introduced in the late 17th century. It was used to support a hot food dish on a table or sideboard; not only adding to the ornamentation, but also protecting the surface against heat.
