A fine late 18th-century Scottish salver with beautiful bright-cut Adam-style decoration. The salver is circular with a beaded rim and stands on four scroll and shell feet. The salver was a baptismal gift in 1788 to the later Lt Col Alexander Barton who fought at Waterloo. It is engraved to the back with: “a present from Mrs Paterson to Alexander Barton her Grandson 1788”. It is engraved to the front with the original armorials of the Barton Family. The condition of the salver is excellent and it was made in the year of the foundation of Australia (see pictures for Alexander Barton’s resume).
