A lovely antique silver sugar caster with a very attractive piercing to the lid. It is nicely hallmarked on the base and correctly part-marked on the lid. On one side of the caster, there is an engraved initial “D” which it is believed pertains to Admiral Sir James Douglas 1703 – 1787 who was commodore of Newfoundland, and amongst other actions served as a member of Admiral Byngs’ court martial in 1757. He owned sugar plantations from 1762 in Guyana and from 1778 in Antigua.
