A fine large Antique silver Augsburg beaker made in c 1725 by Philipp Stenglin. The beaker is of a tapering shape and retains its original gilded interior and most of the original gilding to the upper and lower bands of the regence chasing – also the plain band above and below . It is in excellent condition and will hold about 500 ml. Philipp Stenglin was born in 1667 a master silversmith in 1693 and died in 1744. There is a similar example in the Victoria and Albert Museum and a similar one pictured in Sotheby’s directory of silver by Vanessa Brett page 74 and 75 which was sold in 1978 for £1760. Philipp Stenglin was particularly well known for his beakers of which this is an excellent large example with its original parcel gilt finish.
