This oval silver tobacco box was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1910 and bears the maker’s mark WHH. The hinged lid is engraved with scrolling foliage around a plain oval cartouche, giving a decorative finish to an otherwise practical form. A treated silver polishing cloth is usually enough for light tarnish; for heavier tarnish use a silver foam or cream, rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. Avoid silver dip for hollow pieces. Store wrapped in acid-free tissue or a tarnish-proof bag, and keep rubber bands away from silver.
