Bespoke Silver Commissions

Beyond our stocked ranges, we take on bespoke commissions — one-off pieces designed and made to a brief rather than chosen from existing stock. This guide covers what that process actually involves, and where its real limits are.

What Bespoke Actually Covers

Bespoke work ranges from presentation pieces and corporate commissions through to restorations and genuine one-off design — anything that starts with a brief rather than a catalogue listing. The scale varies enormously: a single engraved presentation piece and a full commissioned artwork both go through the same basic process, just at very different depths.

Design Discussion

We start with what you have in mind and what the piece is for — a conversation, not a form.

Maker & Engraver Selection

The right silversmith or engraver depends on the piece — chosen for the specific commission, not a fixed roster.

Production

The piece is made, from raw silver through to finished object, with progress checked against the original brief.

Hallmarking

Every finished piece is assayed and hallmarked in the UK, the same legal guarantee as anything else we sell.

Proof of Capability: The King Charles III Ciboria

Our largest bespoke commission to date was a reproduction sterling silver ciboria, presented to HM King Charles III at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace — involving master silversmith Tim Lukes, engravers Samantha Marsden and James Neville of Sam James Engraving, and gilder Steven Wood of Auric SG. It’s the clearest evidence of what our bespoke process can produce at its most ambitious — though most enquiries are considerably smaller in scope, and we’d rather be honest about that than imply every commission gets the same scale of attention.

Common Questions

Get in touch with what you have in mind — the occasion, rough scale, and budget if you have one — and we’ll talk through whether it’s a good fit and what the process would look like.
It depends entirely on the scope — get in touch with your timeline and we’ll advise honestly on what’s achievable.
No — it’s our largest and most significant commission to date, not a typical example. Most bespoke enquiries are considerably smaller, from a single engraved piece to a modest one-off design.
Yes — restoration is one of the things bespoke work covers. Get in touch with the piece and what you’d like done.
It depends on the material, maker, and scope, so we don’t quote a standard price — get in touch with your brief and we’ll advise.

If you have a commission in mind — large or small — our showroom team in the London Silver Vaults are happy to talk it through.
