A very good early George II period sugar caster of baluster form, with a pull of lid which is beautifully hand pierced and is surmounted by a bell-shaped finial. The caster bears the original crest and underneath the foot are betrothal initials indicating, it was probably a wedding present for a couple that year. The caster was made in London in 1740 by the specialist caster maker Samuel Wood. The caster is in excellent condition with a pleasing patina. Dimensions, height 16 cm.
